Beltway Orthodontics | Clear Retainers

The Clear retainer is a solid piece of plastic designed to cover your teeth and prevent them from shifting into their previous position. It is equipped with plastic “arms” that connect over the top and bottom of your teeth and are designed to prevent you from biting down, which can cause shifting or damage your teeth. The clear retainer is an excellent option for people that are looking for the convenience of having a removable retainer.

The Clear or Essix Retainer

The Clear Essix Retainer by Beltway Orthodontics uses a special type of orthodontic retainers that are vastly different from traditional metal ones. This type of retainer is made of a transparent material that covers both the top and bottom teeth. Because it is completely clear there is little disruption to your speech, which makes it seem like you have clear teeth all the time!

The Clear or Essix retainer is a removable, transparent layer of durable plastic material formed to cover all surfaces of your teeth. Clear Essix retainers are much less noticeable than their metal counterparts and look similar to clear aligners. These types of retainers are typically less expensive, fit tighter, do not cover the roof of your mouth, and do not alter your speech as much. However Clear Essix retainers are not adjustable, may warp if exposed to heat, and cover your bite making them a less durable option for people that grind their teeth

The Clear Retainer for Children.

We offer clear retainers for children that are strong, durable, and can be removed by the child daily for cleaning. We use this as a means to ensure that our young patients are aware of their responsibilities in their orthodontic treatment.

The Essix Retainer for Adults.

We use Essix retainers for adults that are much more durable and less noticeable than metal retainers. The Essix is not self-ligating, whereas the Invisalign is. Many adults may not want to wear traditional metal retainers due to their appearance. The Essix is a great alternative as it is clear and fits tightly over your teeth, but is not as noticeable as the metal version.
