CLEAR ESSIX RETAINERS

The Clear or Essix retainer is a removable, transparent layer of durable plastic material formed to cover all surfaces of your teeth. Clear Essix retainers are much less noticeable than their metal counterparts and look similar to clear aligners. These types of retainers are typically less expensive, fit tighter, do not cover the roof of your mouth, and do not alter your speech as much. However Clear Essix retainers are not adjustable, may warp if exposed to heat, and cover your bite making them a less durable option for people that grind their teeth.

RETAINERS

Retainers are removable, custom-made appliances designed to hold your teeth in place after your teeth have been aligned and your braces have been removed. Removable retainers are made of either clear plastic, or a combination of metal wire and colored acrylic. For alignment issues that were more difficult to correct during treatment, a fixed or bonded retainer may also be applied to select teeth to hold them more securely. Retainers must be worn as instructed for up to two years after which periodic wear is still advised.
